Plenty of predictable howling about Restore Britain's policy of allowing landlords to introduce contained smoking rooms in their pubs.

If grown adults want to sit in a room, with the landlord's full permission and backing, to smoke/vape the night away - then it is none of my business to say otherwise.

If it's clearly labelled, away from other customers and well ventilated?

Go for it.

I detest smoking. I would not use these rooms, but should that stop others?

No.

Of course it's not healthy, but neither is sinking fifteen pints of Guinness in one sitting and we don't ban that.

It will give neglected pubs a huge economic boost, and keep hundreds of them operational.

Yesterday afternoon Police Scotland received a call from a member of the public following reports of concerning behaviour involving a man at a beach in the Eyemouth area.

According to the witness, a man wearing a DPD uniform allegedly approached two young girls under the age of 13, and invited them into his van "to cool off".

The man then stripped down to his boxer shorts in front of the children and attempted to persuade them to go swimming with him.

One witness states that the girls immediately ran away and sought help from nearby adults. Other adults then challenged the man about his behaviour, and he repeatedly apologised while they spoke with him.

Police Scotland were contacted, and the reporting party says officers were provided with photographs of the man, his van and its registration number.

The two girls also alleged that the man had been taking photographs of them while they were on the beach.

A woman who reportedly overheard the conversation is said to have confirmed hearing what was said, but she left the area before her details could be obtained. It is believed she may have walked towards a nearby caravan park.
