“I’ve never wondered why it was me who got hurt,” Elder Ellsworth said. “I look at it like a test. The Lord doesn’t want me to suffer, but I will learn from this experience.” https://t.co/LGiJZUMyzM
Maslow applies to educators now more than ever. Leaders need to remember that when they’re talking about culture, mission, and all that stuff at the top of the pyramid... they have staff members & students who are worried about safety, security, and all that stuff at the bottom.
“Beneath every behavior there is a feeling. And beneath every feeling is a need. And when we meet that need rather than focus on the behavior, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom.” Ashleigh Warner
It’s good to have fun at work... practical jokes, inside jokes, corny jokes, music, shenanigans, hijinks, tomfoolery, silliness... and lots of laughing.
Colleagues that have fun together, work hard together. And ultimately, it’s a good culture in which students can learn.
I am not saying that you are spreading fake news. What I am saying is everyone is capable and likely to spread false information because our human nature seeks for surprise and novelty and the attention of being the first to share the “inside scoop.”
If you want to go back to school, if you want to go to football games, if you want to cheer on your team, you need to be wearing a mask now when you're out in public.

Remember that trauma-informed care is not just a buzzword. “The largest group of these traumatic experiences is children.” Please help make our schools a safe haven and a place of healing. #sel#empathy
I know I stepped on a few toes on accident because the staff assumed I knew how things were always done and I assumed they did things the way I was used to doing them at my previous schools. Communication and mutual respect is key.
@CeciltheTeacher @DrIbram@JasonReynolds83 What do you think of this book? I recently came across Dr. Ibram for the first time when I listened to him on Brene Brown’s podcast.
If I allow myself to be vulnerable, I must admit that I needed this reminder. We are often our own worst critics, I am culpable of this. It is much easier to show compassion to others than myself.

Sleep. It is vital to our wellbeing. As a society we are suffering collective social anxiety and this general uncertainty about the future fuels insomnia. Typically I'd take bits & pieces & put them out, it's easier to read a few tweets v. a full article.
@DrIbram I listened to the podcast that you did with Brené Brown. I loved how you discussed racist people being both victims and victimizers paving the way for white people to stop avoiding talking about racism due to their personal shame and to finally do something about it.
This article has some great points. My favorite part was, “Depression doesn’t diminish a person’s desire to connect with other people, just their ability.” #sel#empathy#depression
