The dynamic quarterback became the first major college passer to surpass 10,000 career passing yards, finishing with 10,579 while building a reputation for his playmaking ability and leadership.
A four-year starter at Boston College, Flutie never missed a game during his collegiate career and saved his best season for last, throwing for 3,454 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior while leading the Eagles to a 9–2 regular season record and a top-10 national ranking. CRIMSON TIDE was released 31 years ago today.
Denzel Washington accepted the role because he wanted to “joust with a master” like Gene Hackman. The result was one of the most explosive acting pairings of the 90s.
New Red Sox Hall of Famer Mike Timlin had a beautiful remembrance of the late, great Tim Wakefield today that had us all a bit teary-eyed:
"I think of Tim every day. I think about his daughter, Brianna, who's here, and I asked her to be here at the luncheon with us. ... (Before the 2024 home opener) I had all the guys stand up, and I said, 'These are your uncles. We're family now.'
"And to lose a family member is tough. To lose a friend is tough. But we do our best. ... So I think of Tim quite often. I love to hunt. I love to be outside. I know he did, too. We enjoyed it. Every time I go outside at my place in Colorado, it saddens me because he never got to walk on the ground that I walk on. But I also know he's seen it all. He's probably seen more of it than I have now. So I wish he'd tell me a few secrets, that'd be great. [Chuckles] But yeah, I do miss Tim quite a bit."
