Y’all I swear I was working on finishing the next chapter to upload last night while on the train to my friends bachelorette and I got a KIDNEY STONE and had to be wheeled out of an Amtrak station to the ER. Once these pain meds wear off I’ll be back at it but we are delayed 😅
@troybarretts But you still keep to the overarching goal / arc of what you want them to develop - but letting the character respond and live authentically within the chapters just may create more obstacles or have it take longer to get there and you have to work with them
@troybarretts For me, most of my writing is character-centered plot, as in I design the plot with the goal of forcing my characters to have a certain development. Then I outline the different arcs that will push them there and the pacing for each chapter
@troybarretts And then try to write IN character and see what comes up for them within the outline scenes, if they react in a way I didn’t initially plan but it’s authentic, I’ll alter the outline to fit how that shifted the arc
@troybarretts each chapter I decide who’s POV, what they would be realistically feeling in that moment based on the previous chapter and their background, then decide the setting / what the POV character would see in that setting and how they’d interpret it based on their internal state
For anyone following my WIP, I re-wrote A LOT of the dialogue and scene in the spicy section from the most recent chapter bc I re-read it and didn’t like it anymore lol. If you need some new content while you wait for the next chapter, it’s a very different scene now 😅
@rozanov__ Self-rec but I have a WIP that picks up after the long game :) 88k words in with about 4 chapters left to go! https://t.co/1WyCZXlXuu it explores Ilya’s depression / the hockey worlds response to their relationship
