Just wrapped a tree for a client who thought they were purely Irish. Turns out one of his great-grandfathers on his maternal side was born in rural Scotland in 1888, trained as a chemist, and then sailed to British Guiana in 1910 to assist with scientific exploration for the British Empire. While in British Guiana he married a woman who was born in Georgetown to Portuguese and English colonists. They then sailed to NYC in 1916.

Sadly, many of the key records (birth, marriage, death, baptism, etc) of the Armenian people were destroyed by the Ottoman Empire

This person was blown away to learn that they are a direct descendant of:

Valentine “Wall” Hatfield, the grandfather of Devil Anse

William “Old William” McCoy, the progenitor of the McCoy family

We discovered this person is a direct descendant of Sarah Joris Rapelje (de Rapalje). She was born in 1625 and often credited as being the first white woman born in New Netherland.

Sarah is her 10th great grandmother

This one was really interesting. Largely late 19th century and early 20th century immigration from Eastern Europe. Also found a strong line going back to Fort Orange in early New Netherland dating to roughly 1620s

Here in Ireland, it’s very well known that we drink a lot of Guinness. Ireland also has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, higher than the US, UK, Greece, Germany, and many others. These two things may be connected!
