Commodore Jane Roe has assumed command of His Majesty’s Naval Base Devonport. A Royal Naval Air Engineer, Cdre Jane takes over from Brigadier Mike Tanner, who has been in command at the Naval Base for the past three and half years.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
HMNB Devonport remembers.
Proud to take the Remembrance Parade salute for a final time as Naval Base Commander. Such a privilege to be part of the Act Of Remembrance with the City of Plymouth.
🇳🇴 Also in Norway, here’s Devonport-based @47CdoRM in action. They’re involved in a multinational exercise to demonstrate the unity, power and reach of partner nations defending peace and security in northern Europe. 💪 @JEFnations
Plymouth-based frigate @HMSSomerset headed to Norway’s Arctic rocket range in Andøya to unleash the Naval Strike Missile during an exercise alongside Norwegian and Polish allies. https://t.co/u6whQWfRYX
💥 Watch @HMSSomerset launching the Naval Strike Missile - the first @RoyalNavy firing of the new ship-busting missiles, capable of targeting and destroying enemy vessels from over 100 miles away.
💥The 21 Royal Gun Salute on the Quarterdeck at HMS Drake today to commemorate their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s accession to the throne. #BehindTheScenes
Welcome home to 68 year old ex-Plymouth lifeboatman, Barry Perrins - having spent nine years alone, sailing 30,000 miles around the world. Great to see him safely back in Plymouth waters - and welcomed home by his old crew mates. BZ Barry
As a young officer, I had privilege of serving under and near him on a number of occasions - he was certainly an enigmatic, mercurial and instructive beacon to follow and learn from. A genuine legendary figure in a forest of giants. (Thank you Matt, @FCDOMJLodge for sharing)
We all paused today to reflect on VJ Day. I thought of the veterans I’ve known from that campaign. My Scoutmaster Tony, my school teacher’s husband. The impact of that war remained in their eyes. And I thought of ‘Quartered safe out here’, an instructive read.Freedom is not free.
This was going on just outside my office window. Sounded proper fun. Great to see / hear service people engaged in team games. BZ both teams for great team spirit.
🏏 The fighting Clams (HMS Audacious) & the Gundogs (HMS Astute) took a well-deserved break & met up on the HMS Drake Cricket Pitch for the Subflot S Cup. The Clams were victorious - then both crews relaxed with a BBQ ready for another day of #submarine maintenance tomorrow!
Final minute of the final team competing in the National Fireworks ‘Champion of Champions’ Championships! Thank you @plymouthcc for 2 spectacular evenings.
Behind the scenes during this week’s winch training with the crew of a Merlin helicopter from 845 Naval Air Squadron.
The image was taken from the Serco tug involved (SD Careful). The tugs are an essential & versatile part of our team.

Last minute of tonight’s @plymouthcc delivered Champion of Champions British Fireworks Championships, shimmering and echoing off the sea. Just superb. Love this city. (Turn your volume up and enjoy)
Happy Birthday Jim - the oldest living Royal Marine. A good friend of @HMNBDevonport his portrait hangs in the hallway of the wardroom, commissioned by His Majesty the King.
☕️ Ahead of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, The Duchess of Edinburgh sat down with James ‘Jim’ Wren, a 105-year-old Royal Marines veteran, at his care home in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Mr Wren survived the sinking of HMS Repulse in 1941 and was later a Prisoner of War for three and a half years, having been captured whilst escaping from Singapore in February 1942.
Her Royal Highness is Patron of The Java Far East Prisoner of War Club 1942.
@HMSVIVID Quite! Some can play a piano - some can pick one up. Obvs, Im the latter, but the band were very kind and played beautifully, in-spite of my random stick waggling!
Did you know that on this day in 1812 the first stones were being laid to build the internationally acclaimed Plymouth breakwater, thereby allowing the Royal Navy to adopt Devonport as a viable Naval Base. Here’s me ‘conducting(!)’ HM RM Band Plymouth on the breakwater last year.
Devonport-based @HMSRichmond is halfway through #CSG25. Here’s her gunnery team ensuring that she’s always ready for action.
She’s currently sailing north from #Australia protecting @HMSPWLS & other ships in the UK Carrier Strike Task Group. #DidYouKnow#OperationHighmast 🇬🇧
