One of my favorite routines for partner reading of decodable texts: 1) Students underline sentences in alternating colors. 2) Students determine which color they will read. 3) Students read the text a few times and then swap colors. It’s easy and keeps the students engaged!🤓📖

Maycember is here.
I’ve now walked through 15 of these in my career, and they never get easier. It’s emotional, exhausting, and full of change. We’re saying goodbye to students we’ve poured into. Watching our own kids grow up in a blink. Navigating staffing shifts, leadership changes, and all the unknowns a new season brings.

We’re tired. And when we’re tired, we don’t always handle change well. It’s easy to get frazzled, short-tempered, and out of sorts.

May is hard.
It’s the heaviest stretch of the year in education. And when change feels scary, it often leads to chatter… to gossip. But behind that fear is usually just uncertainty.
Let’s not let fear and exhaustion divide us.

Jesus didn’t treat others the way He was treated. He treated them the way He wanted us to treat each other—with grace, kindness, and compassion. Especially when it was inconvenient.

I’ve been on both sides: needing grace, giving it… and failing to give it. We all have.

But schools don’t exist for our comfort. They exist for kids. And in this season, they need us focused, not fractured.

Discord is easy.
Unity takes work—but it’s worth it.

So hang in there.
Keep loving your students.
Keep loving your coworkers.
Keep loving your school.

Love anyway. Lead boldly. Finish well.
That’s how we reflect Christ—by showing up with grace when it’s hardest.
