Writer/film student/musician reluctantly on social media. Words in @maudlinhouse, @corditepoetry, @softuniononline... Squidward is my spirit animal. Get boosted
@truhtnac I was down on them for a short while because of that story, but they actually weren't responsible for the selection or editorial process (they contractually just had to publish it)
@EmmettStinson Been meaning to read Dara for ages (own The Easy Chain and Permanent Earthquake). This writeup has also inspired me to pick this up as well and perhaps even start my Dara journey with it
@slappyonx@AngryVoter2024 Because he's a great interviewer who is able to make his subjects feel vulnerable/far more open than they usually are. Also, people can't help how they look, please don't help to set a precedent/continue the trend where we roast people for that
@BeckyLTuch I should add that I can understand why a magazine might retract an acceptance in some specific cases, but they absolutely owe writers an explanation and apology out of basic decency. Being ghosted is really the worst feeling out there.
@BeckyLTuch I even noted in all of my messages that I didn't mind if they had changed their minds, but I just wanted to have a definitive yes or no so I could again begin the tedious odyssey of shopping them around to other lit mags. I really don't understand why they never replied. Bizarre
@EmmettStinson It's better in person, but it does quite wonderfully evoke the melancholy/wistfulness and shifting hues (both literal and figurative) in his works (not to mention the endless superimpositions of perspectives or thoughts/memories)
@EmmettStinson I did laugh at this, but he's completely correct. Also, I don't know if you've already seen this, but I was surprised to see a portrait of him at the Archibald last week. Definitely one of the highlights in what I felt was a very lacklustre year: https://t.co/13MXwB4lKy
@slowcorecowboy@BurialMagazine We would 100% know considering he includes just about every speck of his everyday activities in his recent lyrics. If not, I'll be expecting "Gears of War Song" or something like that
@aliner Finding a Form has been sitting on my shelf for a year (along with Invisible Yet Enduring Lilacs by Murnane and The White Album by Didion). Really need to stop neglecting essay collections
@_alec_ivan_@toomuchistrue I often wonder about such people staring into bathroom mirrors and pondering what they see looking back in brief moments of being alone with themselves
@_alec_ivan_@toomuchistrue Did Charlie Kirk even remember who he was after a while? Like so many grifters on the right (and even on the left, like many a faux-progressive Democratic politician), he just seemed to just believe whatever translated to greater "audience engagement"
@Greg_Gerke@TheCinesthetic I think The Lobster's fantastic, but Kinds of Kindness was disastrous (a movie about misogyny that winds up being massively misogynistic and just so affectedly nasty, um?) and The Favourite was way too cold and broad for me.
