@SeaOfThieves See the new Crossplay features on XBox! I hacked an alpha version of the client. Check it out quick before it gets taken down! https://t.co/cfVNg8nSqA
@jdmc199@Nemesis2K@SeaOfThieves Haha! There's no place like the internet to find mean spirited people who suddenly have the guts to say what they never would to someone's face. I don't have time or energy for getting angry at posts and tweets; just trying to rationally discuss, I appreciate you doing the same!
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves Thanks for the courteous discussion, hard to find on the internet these days. I hope SoT thrives, but my gut tells me this will start the slow death knell of the PC SoT experiment.
@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves I did LFG a TON for the first 6 months I played. The vast majority of players there were XBox users. Splitting the player pool will reduce the number of LFG posts for both sides, moreso for PC. Less LFG posts means longer wait times to sail, and people have short attention spans.
@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves I don't agree that it had to be done. One of my crew plays on XBox and he slaughters both PC and XBox users alike. He gets accused of being a PC cheater and we laugh. Plus, KBM support was already coming and would have fixed this "issue" for those who still had the old excuse.
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves@RareLtd Nah, they won't have any incentive to reverse it. They're console gamers themselves; from what I hear not terribly good ones at that. This change suits them as it does most of the XBox crowd. Why would they put themselves at the "mercy" of KBM in a non-competitive game again?
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves@RareLtd But now the bad XBox players won't have the old excuse. So when they keep getting sent to the ferry and sunk, they'll have to either up their game or find a new one. They should have just buckled down and worked at getting better to begin with.
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves@RareLtd I can't really blame them, they are listening to the majority and they have made a decision that will skew the player base even further toward XBox than PC. That may've been the way things would have gone eventually; I'm just bummed they didn't wait to see what KBM could do 1st.
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves There will always be a steady turn over of players. Players stop playing all the time, for many reasons. The problem is that new PC players joining (with far fewer opportunities for LFG matchmaking) and staying with the game long term, won't keep up with the #'s who leave.
@1Chenzo@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves I don't want to keep sounding like a broken record, but PC doesn't have the same draw that XBox does to SoT. The player base is smaller and there will be more players leaving the game on PC than starting it new and sticking around. After Arena hype dies, the PC pool will dwindle.
@jdmc199@Nemesis2K@SeaOfThieves If the player base shrinks by 80 percent because the players have been split up and one pool of players is significantly smaller and continues to shrink, then this will happen long before the game dies. The XBox player pool may thrive, PC won't; it will peter out much sooner.
@Justmy2cents11@SeaOfThieves I can afford an XBox but why would I buy one when I own a superior machine? I don't enjoy console games typically. And sure, XBox users can stream, but can XBox streamers generate the same quality streams as PC? Are there any popular XBox SoT streamers? I honestly don't know.
@jdmc199@Nemesis2K@SeaOfThieves There will definitely be servers, we only need 24 players worldwide in order to have a server. The problem is we'll just continue to see the same players over and over. This change will drastically reduce PC player #'s. This game was sold as crossplay, that's basically over.
@jdmc199@SeaOfThieves KBM was the only thing that was needed for so-called "fair play", and that was already in the works. Splitting the player base only removes the excuse that bad XBox players had for being bad. With that gone they will now have to either find a new excuse or quit to save their ego.
@jdmc199@SeaOfThieves PC numbers will continually shrink. New players will be hard pressed to find anyone sailing in open crews, LFG will be empty on the XBox app, and discord servers will dry up. For every 10 PC players that quit 1 new one will start, and they'll have a hard time finding a crew.
@SeaOfThieves My son is 7 and loves this game immensely. How will he find an open crew once the PC player base numbers die? And if he finds a crew, how will he stay out of the brig once they realize he doesn't have a microphone? For me, this change is terrible. #fewerplayersmeansfewerstories
@SeaOfThieves I was expecting to play this game for years to come, watching my kids grow up sailing alongside me. But what will this game be once the PC servers dry up? The streamers WILL stop streaming. The PC players won't be able to find groups on LFG and the discord servers will dry up.
@RareLtd Making cross platform party play optional in @SeaOfThieves seems is a mistake. Splitting the player base is going to drop the PC numbers steadily until we're only running into the same crews over and over. What happens when KBM support comes to XBox? Split again? ...
...I hope I have given you something to consider. The cross platform play has always made this game special, and as a PC player there are a LOT of friends that I now have that I wouldn't even know without the cross platform play. Please don't divide us up!
@RareLtd now seems to be toying with the idea of making cross platform play optional in @SeaOfThieves... so that XBox players could opt out of playing with/against PC players. Don't do it! There will be massive repercussions to the PC player base...
...afford watering down their numbers with someone who doesn't know the ropes. The console players who won't take the time to work on their skill will no longer have the ego-saving excuse they used to have, so they will just quit instead of facing reality...
