@thatclassywhale I could only dream of being able to walk to places like that. This needs to be the norm our world would be better, fairer and way more sustainable!!
@floppatakes Any way of connecting the R4 and R5 and R2 via the Howard Street Tunnel to create a triangular transfer and one transfer service from BAL Penn to Annapolis. Guess that would require some sort of new freight alignment avoiding downtown Baltimore though.
@floppatakes This so needs to happen. There’s so much more we can do when we move away from the old commuter rail model and move to regional rail also makes higher-speed and dreaming true high speed Amtrak service that much more useful for more trips
@lgbtqsyd @ThunderWolf08 It makes so much sense the current 10-13 trains a day at 2hr 25 min NYP to ALB trains are already packed with record ridership. Imagine at least every hour, ideally every 30 min most of the day with EMUs. You could get it down to two hours at 110mph with higher superelevation.
@alanthefisher Nothing cooler than taking thug back to Scranton from the minor-league ball game and passing the drivers in their SUVs all from the all-electric 1926 Brill.
@thatclassywhale I feel converting these disjointed systems into high-frequency electrified regional rail would be a once in a lifetime project that would be one of those most transformative transportation projects in the region and drive a shift from cars far beyond Manhattan.
@thatclassywhale I’d argue the hatred between the PRR and NY Central looms large in NYC with no connection ever built between GCT and NYP and incompatible electrification systems a legacy along with modern agency fiefdoms that hampers efforts to convert MNR, LIRR and NJT into regional rail.
North America needs to electrify its railways, we have no clear path to zero emissions for many things, those things which have proven zero emissions solutions must be aggressively pursued.
@OliverJCochrane@alanthefisher That makes me so livid. As a Hudson Valley resident higher-speed Amtrak and MNR electrified regional rail to Poughkeepsie would be one of the best infrastructure projects we could do helping to move away from car dependency.
Great to see a Congressman raising the point that car dependency hurts all of us, some more than others.
Public transportation gives the 31% of Americans who can't or don't drive freedom, and could give millions more options. #AWeekWithoutDriving
