The area of the harbour named the Mud Dock has been called this since before the floating harbour was built. The soft mud of the riverbed there was much safer for ships at low tide than the rocky bottom everywhere else. Therefore these were the most expensive moorings in #Bristol
In 1883, Francis Fry (of the Fry’s Chocolate co.) set a speed/distance record on a #Bristol made penny-farthing/high wheel. He cycled 100 miles in less than 6 hours, a record for a solid-wheel bicycle which still stands today. The bicycle is part of the @mshedbristol collection.
To celebrate the unveiling of sculptor Kate Malone’s drinking fountain on Castle Park in 1993, the day it was turned on, it flowed with an “unlimited” choice of either orange juice or red wine, depending on which fish head was selected. #Bristol
