Right to Buy transformed Britain.

Millions gained the opportunity to own their homes.

But one analysis estimates the discounts were worth ~£194bn in today's property values.

The bigger question: why weren't enough homes built to replace them?

But councils couldn't simply reinvest all the proceeds into replacements.

So homes were sold while council housebuilding collapsed.

So when Rightmove says £500k, it doesn't mean the house is worth £500k.

It means someone is asking £500k.
