Ensuring a collective, independent & Palestinian-led voice on British policy making towards Palestine

“After witnessing three years of genocide livestreamed to their phones, people in the UK remain attentive to this issue and will continue to hold the government accountable”, BPC director, Sara Husseini on UK solidarity and the impact on British politics.

🚨NEW: After a months-long investigation, we can reveal that a British national who posed in front of a burning school in Gaza fought for Israel and may have participated in war crimes.

Honoured to host a distinguished panel of experts in Parliament this week to discuss the govt's recent sanctions announcement vis-a-vis Israel.

UN Special Rapporteur @FranceskAlbs @NimerSultany @ZainahElHaroun & BPC Chair @AimeeShalan addressed a full room on the implications of the announcement for accountability & justice in Palestine as well as Britain's own obligations under international law.

A specialist appeals court has ruled that the Home Office’s approach to biometric requirements is unlawful in the cases of two Palestinian families seeking to reunite. https://t.co/999JAAlG3Q 1/7

Two weeks ago, the new foreign secretary, Ed Milliband, referred to the atrocities inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza as a “stain on the conscience of the world”, and announced the start of a new approach “that not only calls out injustice and suffering, but acts”. But will these words will only mean something for the Palestinians who arrive to the UK if a system is built that is capable of responding to exceptional circumstances – circumstances that the UK itself helped create. 6/7

As BPC Director Sara Husseini explained at the @PSCupdates Green Party conference fringe event over the weekend: “We must be clear exactly what support for Israel means. It means support for a settler-colonial project aimed at gaining the maximum amount of territory on and around historic Palestine, with the fewest number of Palestinians on that land.” 3/3

[British Palestinian Committee @BritPalCommitt]

The media storm of the past 24 hours around the Green Party conference “Zionism is racism” motion has sidelined the voices of Palestinians – the very people who have suffered most at the hands of the Israeli state and the Zionist project that underpins it. 1/3

[British Palestinian Committee @BritPalCommitt]

It is disappointing that coverage of the motion has distracted from the material reality of the mass ethnic cleansing, apartheid, occupation, and genocide of the Palestinian people that Zionism has set in train over the course of the past century. 2/3

[Nimer Sultany @NimerSultany]

To be clear, the legal obligation on British government to act to prevent genocide does not require it to accept that it is a genocide, it only requires knowledge of a "serious risk" of genocide. To say we'll wait for ICJ decision is a failure to comply with the law.

[British Palestinian Committee @BritPalCommitt]

"The decision to restart the refugee resettlement scheme with a focus on Palestinians is progress. But it still falls far short of the scale of action that’s urgently needed amidst an ongoing genocide in which the UK itself is complicit. If this government is serious about rectifying Keir Starmer’s failures on Palestine, it needs to confront all of the policies that harm Palestinian lives — both abroad and here in Britain." -- Ghassan Ghaben, Senior Community Advocacy Officer, BPC

Palestinians arriving from Gaza face homelessness, mental health crises and a Home Office actively restricting family reunion.

"[We must] make it untenable for there to be any space in British politics for such groups that have spent decades trying to undermine the struggle for Palestinian rights, while advocating for a state that is responsible for the ongoing genocide of our people."

BPC Director Sara Husseini addressed a full house at @PSCupdates Labour Party Conference fringe earlier this week.

Powerful interview with @PSCupdates Director and Chair of the BPC, Dr. Aimee Shalan: “Those who are responsible for trying to criminalise support for Palestinians and their rights, and supporters trying to end a horrific genocide, should hang their heads in shame.”

[Aimee Shalan @AimeeShalan]

Massive support for a free Palestine is reshaping British politics, even though what Ed Miliband calls a ‘definitive change’ in government policy falls far short of the clear and immediate actions people are calling for. https://t.co/hN77REQZIu

“Ending Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories, as determined by the International Court of Justice, requires immediate, effective & comprehensive actions by the UK gov, not a piecemeal approach.” BPC Advisory Council Member, Prof @NimerSultany https://t.co/Pxid1F5jZv
