The problem here is the formation and player selection more than it was a tactical. You cannot play any major tournament without a midfield that can advance play. Top that with the fact that you don't adjust accordingly at the break...the problem= the coaching

South Africa unfortunately conspired against themselves from the start here. Undoing the plan so early to be compact and create tension for Mexico, taking unnecessary risks in the face of a high press, gifting Mexico a goal and the ball at will, being nervy and snatching at play.

Such a lack of confidence and conviction in possession, especially when there were spaces to be exposed. Bar the poor decision-making and sloppiness, perhaps the most disappointing element is Bafana Bafana haven’t played like themselves at all. No sign of the slick passing, quick transitions and dangerous use of width.
