NEW. MASSIVE NEWS - FUR BAN DITCHED - NO SUPPORT IN CABINET - Ministers set to drop UK ban on foie gras and fur imports - BBC News https://t.co/MGC34azRHB
@Christian4BuryS Lying and misleading again @Christian4BuryS . This was Conservative Party manifesto commitments on animal welfare. Where’s the mention of fur? But then you were more than happy to jump ship on the manifesto you were elected on without offering your constituents a by-election.

Zac Goldsmith led a one man mission to try to ban natural fur. He was defeated within government because he would not listen to or accept the overwhelming evidence. Evidence that showed a majority of people did not support a ban, that it would not improve animal welfare, 1/3
that it would damage international trade, that it was unenforceable and unworkable and that it would cost thousands of jobs and close hundreds of businesses. He failed ultimately to recognise that others might have a different view to his own and legitimate right to exist. 2/3
Zac Goldsmith is a loan, isolated voice in Government. His colleagues have realised that banning fur would do nothing to improve animal welfare, but is a mere token supported by a small number of activists https://t.co/IuJTd52k8Q

Common sense. No change from previous Govt position but further recognition a ban would cost 1000s jobs and do nothing to improve welfare. Fur sector has comprehensive assurance and traceability schemes in place guaranteeing welfare standards https://t.co/3Fa5q7dFSM
The Government rejected calls for a fur ban by campaign groups because it recognised that it do nothing to improve animal welfare, whilst recognising the high welfare standards already in place and that consumers should be free to make up their own minds.” Thanks
.@BenHattonJourno please add our quote to your story. A spokesperson for the British Fur Trade Association said Fur sold in the UK comes from certified sources that accord to strict welfare conditions, independently measured to be among the highest of any in animal husbandry.
@SkyNews For the avoidance of doubt: fur used comes from populations that have to be managed. PETA’s alternative is to replace this 100% sustainable, natural material with plastic. But then it doesn’t care about the environment or indigenous people who depend on it for their survival
@SkyNews Desperate & misleading from PETA. They’ve completely failed to make the case that a natural, sustainable material should be replaced with plastic (the MoD did test it & it failed 4 out of the 5 criteria) and so they are reduced to trying to bully their way by legal action. Read:

Animal rights group PETA said Friday it is taking legal action against the UK defence ministry over its refusal to test a fake fur version of the distinctive bearskin hats worn by ceremonial guards.

Glad to see that the UK's Ministry of Defence standing behind the science that *real* fur from Canada's well-managed black bear harvest is always superior to *fake* fur. #fur#cdnpoli#UKPolitics
NEW Remember PETA threatening the MoD with legal action if it didn’t adopt its Ecopel plastic fur? Well, confirmed, new tests show that it failed 4 of the 5 tests required to be viable alternative. We look forward to PETA’s legal challenge. Faux = Plastic https://t.co/znzodpIjB8
