The British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer was only a dream when I last visited in 2014. Yesterday it was host to a magical and moving ceremony of commemoration - to mark the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Thank you @JohnHealey_MP and @Vernon_Coaker for participating in our #DDay82 commemoration @britishmemorial. We honoured the memory of Lord Coaker’s uncle, Sgt Vernon Coaker, killed on 6 June 1944 at the age of 23, together with all his comrades who fell under British command.
The 82nd Anniversary of D-Day was commemorated in Normandy among Veterans, dignitaries, descendants of the Churchill and Montgomery families, and local school children.

Commemorations in Normandy to mark D-Day 82 were attended by senior defence personnel including Defence Minister Lord Coaker and the Chief of the Defence Staff Air Chief Marshall Sir Rich Knighton.
In tribute to the thousands of British and allied troops who lost their lives to secure our freedom, Defence Secretary John Healey laid wreaths at the British Normandy Memorial and the 48th Commando of the Royal Marines monument.

Yesterday, some eight decades after their sacrifice during the Allied invasion in 1944, the names of 98 “lost” servicemen were finally added to the roll of honour on the British Normandy Memorial.

Today we commemorate the bravery and the sacrifice of those who landed in Normandy on D-Day, 82 years ago today, fighting for the freedom we have today.
Their actions on 6th June 1944 enabled the tide to turn in Europe.
It was an honour and a privilege to be part of the parliamentary delegation at the British Normandy Memorial today.

En ce samedi 6 juin, au Mémorial britannique de Ver-sur-Mer, face à la mer et au souvenir, la France et le Royaume-Uni se sont réunis au cours d’une cérémonie solennelle d’hommage aux soldats britanniques tombés lors de la Bataille de Normandie.

🕊 Cette commémoration rend hommage aux 22 442 soldats britanniques qui ont donné leur vie pour pour la liberté, saluant ainsi une génération entière venue d’outre-Manche.
La Ministre déléguée auprès de la ministre des Armées et des Anciens combattants a déposé une gerbe au pied du Mémorial en hommage aux héros britanniques.

A special Service of Dedication was held yesterday at the British Normandy Memorial for 98 ‘lost’ servicemen newly added to the roll of honour, including at least 12 service personnel with close ties to Scotland.
