Individual student math progressions start today! The goal is mastery at every step of the standard and complete transparency in learning and assessment. @PersonalizeSC@GriggsRoad
I’m excited to be speaking at the #NCTMDEN26 Annual Meeting, October 28-31 in Denver! I’ll be sharing “Empowering Students Through Math Progressions: Tracking Growth in the 5th Grade Classroom” with educators from across the country. Join me:

Here are the questions we’ll be posting throughout the night for our chat. Please be sure to use A1, A2, etc. at the start of your response, use hashtag #loveSCschools, and tag

A5: I took a sick day Friday after a 101° fever Thursday night. My son was shocked, I’ve averaged <1 sick day per year since I started teaching, and usually for my kids. No guilt about taking care of myself this time.
Q5: As we close our conversation, let’s think about how we carry this mindset forward into the week ahead. Reply using A5 and remember to include #loveSCschools and tag @SC_ATLL in your response.
A4: I think when students see authenticity, boundaries, and growth, they feel safer to learn, struggle, and succeed. My students have a safe place to struggle and grow when they see me authentically struggle.
Q4: Sometimes the very things that make us human—empathy, reflection, vulnerability—also make us stronger leaders. Reply using A4 and remember to include #loveSCschools and tag @SC_ATLL in your response.
A2: In a profession where burnout and a lack of boundaries are often treated as measures of excellence, I’ve entered my villain era. I have boundaries. I won't tolerate bad leadership. #loveSCschools
A2: The pressure to be more than human is the expectation to always be “on,” to be everything a student needs - not just a teacher, but also a motivator, mentor, counselor, mediator, tech support, advocate, a nervous system regulator, a trauma responder...@SC_ATLL#loveSCschools
I’m happy to share that I’ve completed my Doctor of Education - EdD at University of South Carolina in Innovation in Education with a Curriculum Studies concentration.
So inspired by the innovation happening with @knowledgeworks around AI for personalized learning. 🤖💡 The ideas flowing are next-level. The future of learning is here and it’s student-centered.
Built a fun student-facing AI chatbot today with help from Kim Nordin! Students enter their interests, the math standards they want to grow in, and the type of project they like—then it generates project ideas 🤩

Thursday marks 24 school days until Winter break. I ordered one of these advent calendars so we can do a mini science experiments every morning during morning meeting.
Tonight is the end of an era.
Thank you for the music Clover. And thank you more for who you shaped Austin into. We couldn’t have done it without you. ☘️💙
