@Soteriology101@TRHowardJr Debatable that Adam didn’t have a sinful nature to begin with. God created the world for calamity. It says Adam didn’t know good from evil, not that he had a good nature. God even made Adam without any clothes and only when Adam sinned did he realize it wasn’t good to be naked.
@Soteriology101 So you’re saying people can actually do good and go to heaven on their own merit? Because if they aren’t able to do that then they shouldn’t be blameworthy…
Never realized the foreshadowing here. Famine in Canaan, Abraham went down to Egypt. God put plagues on pharaoh because of Sarai. Abraham then journeyed back up to Canaan.
Famine in Canaan, Jacob went down to Egypt. God plagued Pharaoh, then Jacob journeyed back up to Canaan.
Genesis 9:25 …cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants he shall be to his brothers.
Wonder if this has to do with God promising the land of Canaan to the Jews, and driving out the Canaanites.
@Soteriology101 Premise 1. God predestined the cross
Premise 2. The cross wouldn’t have happened if not for unbelievers.
Conclusion: God predestined people to be unbelievers.
I don’t know if that’s valid, but this is my thinking. That’s even scarier than god predestining believers.
@God_Questioner it says in Roman’s 9 that he created certain people (uses pharaoh as an example) for the very purpose of destroying them, and he did it to show his power and demonstrate his anger and to show mercy on the people he loves.
My thought is that if one thinks they have authority from God to teach, rebuke, etc, they should also be able to perform consistent and frequent raising-the-dead-type miracles. This is one reason why I suspect God is not with us.
@MikeWingerii Jesus & his disciples had authority and they gave it to others by the laying on of hands, but imo I don’t see how we can trace that authority from the disciples and then directly to us. I think it’s hard to prove that anyone has authority today, (heb 5:4).
@God_Questioner So I feel that’s even worse than them bearing the consequence of sin for something God knew. It’s seems like they’re bearing the consequence of sin for something God actually made them do.
@God_Questioner Genesis seems to teach that God made them sin. He literally said he would *make* Adam in his “likeness” and then after Adam ate the fruit, god said “look, the man has become *like* one of us”.
@God_Questioner He also said “it is not good for the man to be alone” and yet god was the one who made Adam to be alone, as he could have made them at the exact same time. To me Genesis is a description of how god made the world evil, and yet called it “very good”.
I think the doctrine of the trinity could be dangerous ground for Christians. Bc when you start to divide the godhead, you also divide the resurrection. So you could never say that *all* of God died for you and rose again. Is this a subtle denial of the resurrection?
If God made this world perfect in the beginning, why did He make darkness? It says that God saw that the light was *good*, and then He separated the light from the darkness. Doesn’t that seem to imply that the darkness was bad? And yet God called something bad, “very good”.
