@britthomewood I agree! There are times when I listen to an artist on Spotify and become captivated by their voice but then see a clip of them preforming live on YouTube and get taken back at the drastic difference in their sound. #S22POPMUS
@BesmahTepagende I think a lot of music is auto tuned now to the point that the new and upcoming artists aren't actually as talented as they seem to be. Because of this you'll notice that a lot of them don't tour as much as other artists! #S22POPMUS
I personally love live music whether it's a cover band or the original artist. It adds to the whole experience! New technologies take away from the artists natural talent by over editing, when hearing them live they sound totally different now! #S22POPMUS
@PratyushnitaM I often hear older music that doesn't appeal to me, but when hearing a recent cover that has adapted to society today it's different! Unfortunately for listeners theres no way to tell if the original artist is getting credit where credit is due! #S22POPMUS
@Bowen_Wang926 I agree! It's a big part of history and like everything else things have changed. Making music that includes parts of history keeps it alive while still reforming to include modern day music and interests that appeal to people today. #S22POPMUS
Covering songs doesn’t mean artists are lacking talent. You still need to have talent for it to sound good. Regarding cultural theft, music is forever evolving, and artists need to evolve with it but giving credit to the original artists is also very important! #S22POPMUS
@ian_pat_carroll @britthomewood Agreed! Normally if an artist of any kind has a voice crack while performing it is looked at as something to be embarrassed by. Charles took this attitude and reversed it to normalize what often times people cannot control. #S22POPMUS
@adammizuan11 It's an authentic voice for Ray Charles, something that others that cover his songs are not able to recreate! It keeps his song, his. There are not many people that can take a voice crack and turn it into something worth listening to! #S22POPMUS
When people are feeling emotional, voice cracks are common. I believed Ray Charles uses this technique to draw listeners in and truly feel the emotion he felt when writing the song, as well as when he performed. #S22POPMUS
Spotify allows listeners to create a playlist with their favourite music and then share that playlist with others. By doing this we are able to share our personal songs/identities with friends or the public. It's a popular way to listen and access music! #S22POPMUS
@sarahmlamswood Interesting point! Similar to the purchase of record players. Once they were in every household and now it seems as if having a record player is a trend rather than having one for the sole purpose of enjoying musical records. #S22POPMUS
@YifanDuan4 We have come a long way since the gramophone! We now have the convenience of taking music where ever we go. In the 20th century the gramophone had an influence on musical life, and now we can say the same with modern ways of streaming media. #S22POPMUS
@XinranSun As was mentioned in the notes "popular music is the product of constantly changing sets of relationships between individuals and groups, etc..". Without the messages and influence of others it would not be as popular as it is today!
Popular music contains various genres, each of which grab the attention of various listeners for various reasons. It has helped encourage the music industry to embrace the differences between genders, cultures and economic differences around the world. #S22POPMUS
@svernb I agree with you! While it can be used for both I personally find listening to music more of a routine thing to do while driving, cleaning or cooking. Although, we unintentionally get pulled into the thought provoking aspect sometimes as well. #S22POPMUS
