Before Mike Breen calls Game 3 of the #NBAFinals from @TheGarden, longtime friend & fellow N.Y. sports voice @RealMichaelKay sent a heartful message
Three years ago, the Angels opted to hold on to Shohei Ohtani at MLB's Trade Deadline. It backfired. Here's why the Tigers have to learn from LAA's mistakes, and trade Tarik Skubal before August 3rd:

@GeffenKid I'm gonna guess it's an amalgamation of far more right-handed pitchers in baseball, coincidence, and a quicker path to first base. Even with all that, though, it's a little weird.
Here's something interesting I've noticed:
11 of the top 12 hitters by .OPS so far this season are lefties -- Only Yandy Diaz bats from the right side of the plate.

I've started a Substack to cover the Dodgers and MLB at large. I've taken a year off from print journalism to focus on play-by-play, and I've missed writing dearly. I've planning to write long-form articles 2-3x a week, and it's completely free to subscribe!

Shohei Ohtani now has the highest OBP and 2nd-highest wRC+ in the NL.
Shohei Ohtani lowered his ERA to 0.74, the best among all SP with at least 60 IP.
We’ve already seen 4 Ohtani MVP seasons and somehow 2026 will be his best year yet
Following six more scoreless innings tonight, Shohei Ohtani's ERA is 0.74. Through 10 starts, the lowest ERAs in major league history:
Jacob deGrom, 2021: 0.56
Juan Marichal, 1966: 0.59
Shohei Ohtani, 2026: 0.74
Hitters are slashing .144/.224/.211 against him. Just incredible.
Shohei Ohtani has reached base 4 times in 4 plate appearances tonight.
He has allowed one baserunner in 5 innings on the mound.
Ohtani is hitting .300 with a .940 OPS.
He is yielding a 0.75 ERA.
Might as well start engraving that MVP trophy now.

Wow. Gutsy, gutsy win by the Knicks. Coming back from down 14 to win Game 1. Still think the Spurs are a better team, but the shot-making ability of Jalen Brunson is so unbelievable.
