1. Ideological Roots:

Hamas was established in 1987 during the First Intifada as the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. Its founding charter explicitly aligns with the Brotherhood’s goal of establishing an Islamic society governed by Sharia law, emphasizing jihad as a means to achieve political and religious objectives.

2. Organizational Links:

Hamas emerged from the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestinian wing, specifically through figures like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Brotherhood member who founded Hamas. The Brotherhood provided the ideological and organizational framework, including networks of mosques, charities, and schools, which Hamas used to build its influence in Gaza and the West Bank.

3. Shared Goals:

Both groups advocate for the establishment of Islamic governance and view Israel’s existence as their main focus for the sake of total eradication of all Jews. Historically, the Muslim Brotherhood has provided Hamas with financial and logistical support through its global network. During Morsi’s rule, Hamas enjoyed increased cross-border support via Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, though this waned after the Brotherhood’s ouster in 2013.

6. Global Network:

The Brotherhood’s international presence, including in Europe and North America, has helped Hamas amplify its narrative. Brotherhood-linked organizations have been accused of promoting Hamas’s agenda through advocacy and fundraising, though they often deny direct ties. However, the evidence is undeniable and it was proven in court during the Holy Land Foundation Terrorism trial, which was the largest terror financing trial in US history.

The 2008 trial of the charity leaders was the "largest terrorism financing prosecution in American history." In 2009, the founders of the organization were given sentences of between 15 and 65 years in prison for "funnelling $12 million to Hamas." Many of the affiliated organizations are still operating in the US today with a 501c3 tax exempt status.

The chant “globalize the intifada” reflects Hamas’s & the broader Muslim Brotherhood goal of expanding “Islamic resistance” against perceived oppressors, including the USA, Israel & Western institutions like @ICEgov.
