@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX I've never said that Chris has exactly the same credentials (a bachelors in meteorology is not the same), but I'm noting that having James Hansen's exact credentials has been used against those who disagree with him which is really a farce of an argument, to be perfectly clear.
@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX well, you just don't get to (rightly, in my view) observe, on the one hand, that the specific areas being studied serve as scaffolding and then to (wrongly) assert that the primary focus of someone's specific qualifications excludes something that may be an interest of theirs.
@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX What some of us take issue with is this phenomenon: take James Hansen, for instance. There's nothing wrong with his credentials being in physics and astronomy; but then, when it's argued that someone who disagrees isn't a climate scientist when having matching credentials...
@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX As I'm sure we both are aware of, your area of training and area of research don't need to exactly match. Depends on the path you choose or what was available and so forth.
@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX Technically yes, but meteorology is one of those domains which people considered to be climate science often have had as their specific area of training, among other areas.
@edmontonjournal The impeccably conscientious handling of things by those in public health roles during the Covid-19 period would probably be "Exhibit A" for why you might not want to actually do this.
@Jim_Cornelius@ChrisMartzWX "Meteorology is not climate science" except when it is? Except when the qualifications for a climate scientist are, in fact, meteorology? Similar observations can be made for other fields (astrophys, math, and the like). This statement is a joke and has been so for a while now.
@MarkLillyPhoto@ChrisMartzWX Maybe it's a consequence of the continual claim that those who disagree with certain climate claims never have any qualifications. (Meanwhile, said camp will platform people who have no qualifications at all if they agree which suggests that the argument is not a good faith one.)
@KnucklesNp26684@ChrisMartzWX Yeah, a great example of this when one mentions one's degree and Oh, it's not from a Good School. Having a degree? Not good enough. Working in the field? Well, you don't count because of supposed fossil fuel funding (bonus if it exists, but it will said regardless).
@CrayonMurders The senator said nothing of the sort.
Read the actual sentence. It should be fairly clear what it means. Hint: what does 'elements' in 'agenda' mean?
Here’s 4 of the comets I’ve photographed over the last 4 years. We’ve been lucky to get a pretty cool comet every year!
Neowise, Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), Leonard, and C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS). The last one is available in print for the next few days at the link in my bio.
A three-year-old boy lost in a cornfield at night in Alto, Wisconsin, was safely rescued using thermal imaging technology.
Deputies and fire department personnel located the child within 15 minutes using a thermal drone.
Wow, mesmerizing #SolarFlare activity from the Sun last night! This movie shows the flare in ultraviolet light, combining images from two filters to show both 1 mil °C (red) and 10 mil °C (cyan) plasma in the Sun’s atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful! #astronomy#spaceweather
