[Halifax Fire News @HRMFireNews]

It is with the utmost sadness today that we learned of the passing of HRFE Captain Billy Marr. Deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and his work family at HRFE.

There is no doubt he leaves a lasting impact in many ways. I will leave it to other people better positioned to speak to that. However, I do want to mention one of his many accomplishments. It seems to me that Billy exemplified the courage and selflessness embodied by the best of firefighters when, over the past few years, he took on the task of advocating for presumptive cancer legislation and other cancer related initiatives, despite the fact that he himself was deep in a battle. He was instrumental in achieving changes in 2022 that will benefit future Nova Scotian firefighters suffering from job related illness. In truly selfless fashion, he did this so that others coming after him could be taken care of.

This is just one example of how he leaves an impact in so many ways. He will surely be missed by all he knew. Again, my condolences to all. Rest easy, @hockeytrainer77.

Three years ago today, we lost six of our members in a horrific accident over the Ionian Sea.

Among them were two from our own ranks — Sub-Lieutenant Abbigail Cowbrough and Sub-Lieutenant Matthew Pyke.

Today and always, they are in our hearts.

However, victory came at a steep cost. Almost 10,600 Canadians were killed and wounded in the assault. Four Canadians were awarded the Victoria Cross for acts of extreme courage in the battle. 4/6

a rapist having more rights than the person who was raped and therefore became pregnant kinda feels like obvious insanity but maybe i’m missing something. just kidding. i’m not. that’s reality and it’s fucking insane.

Being a high functioning depressed person is so exhausting because I never really know if I’m actually okay or if I’m just doing things…

As we reflect on the service and sacrifice of those lost 2 years ago, and the tremendous courage of the loved ones and families left behind, we are reminded of the inherent dangers of the profession of arms. Gone but not forgotten.
