News: Ruben Diaz Sr., who lost his #NY15 House bid, appears to announce he’s not running for re-election to NY City Council.
Subject line: “EVERYTHING HAS ITS END”
In @daveweigel newsletter tonight, a look at @BronxUnidos polling, and how Ruben Diaz Sr’s long history of anti-LGBTQ bonkers statements and positions were a negative for him in a district many thought was socially conservative.
Voters in #NY15 resoundingly rejected the rhetoric upon which Diaz built his political career.
When you bring the right people to the table, you can achieve great things.
But the fight isn't over, and the South Bronx has another chance to reject hate in 2021.

.@BronxUnidos, the anti-Ruben Diaz Sr. group that pressed the case against him beginning in May, sends me a memo on how Diaz Sr. was winning — but their polling showed he dropped to third once voters learned more about him.
He came in third last night.
NEW AD: @revrubendiaz has a lot in common with @realDonaldTrump.
We think it's time he trades in his cowboy hat for a MAGA one - it definitely fits better.
Congratulations to @RitchieTorres for his historic victory last night! This is a win for decency and good governance, and we are proud to have worked with @BronxUnidos to help make it possible. We look forward to watching Ritchie become a national leader in the years ahead.
As @agrenell has rightly pointed out, whole lotta folks in NYC politics sat that primary out 3 years ago. Sitting on the sidelines was wrong then and is unacceptable now. Especially you speaker candidates 👀👀👀
What’s at stake for Dems:
“Ruben Diaz Sr. is a Trump-loving, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ, Republican lookalike," @EricDKoch of anti-Diaz Bronx United told me. “He has no place in Congress and would be an endless distraction at a time when the Bronx and New York need real leadership."
Ruben Diaz Sr will “cast his vote” tomorrow- the only issue? He doesn’t live in the district so he can’t vote for himself. He lives in @AOC district. Oops.
