**TRAFFIC ALERT**
All three BNSF grade crossings in Brookfield are blocked due to malfunctioning gates. BNSF is aware of the problem and is working on a fix, but we have no ETA at this time for when the crossings will reopen. Police are at the crossings to prevent vehicles from going around the gates.
Please avoid the Hollywood, Prairie and Maple Avenue crossings and use alternate routes.
We will update when the gates are functioning properly again.
UPDATE: Wednesday, June 3 at 4:07 p.m.
BNSF has just informed the Village that the start time and date for this project will be Thursday, June 11 at 7 a.m. The end time/date remains the same.
The project will last for 9 days, not 8.
RoadSafe, a construction firm employed by the BNSF Railroad, has informed the Village that the Hollywood Avenue grade crossing will be closed for repairs beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 12 and ending at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 19.
The project manager overseeing the repairs has confirmed that the grade crossing will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians during the 8-day closure.
The closure of the grade crossing sidewalks will impact Metra commuters who live on either side of the railroad tracks, and all South Hollywood residents in both Brookfield and Riverside.
The only motor vehicle entrance/exit to and from South Hollywood will be via First Avenue.

With June right around the corner, it’s time to renew your 2026-27 vehicle sticker!
In May, all vehicle owners registered to a Brookfield address should have received a renewal notice in the mail. Please remember that all vehicles registered to a Brookfield address — whether housed in the Village or not — must display a valid 2026-27 vehicle sticker by June 30.
Did you know? Revenue collected from vehicle sticker sales goes directly toward maintaining Brookfield’s local streets.
