These sweet summer babies think that city of yes is going to magically make this existing home into a condo and that they are going to be able to buy or rent it. This is not going to happen. How can people be so deceived?

This is W. 11th St. in the West Village. The West Village is a landmarked neighborhood. All of the changes of city of yes which will be crammed down our throat did not apply to these politically connected areas. @NYCPlanning deceptive marketing worked on you. 🧸

There are three problems with that.

First, when real estate investors see an opportunity for profit, they will take it. TALK about upzoning an area where there is a good economy and strong demand, and prices will immediately go up. Speculators will often "capture" the increased value of the land before the upzoning goes through.

Second, the least expensive form of multi-family housing is the four- or five-story walkup.

Third, other forms of multi-family housing are more profitable. In NYC, that's the luxury tower. The most profitable there is the super-luxury, super-profitable supertall. It's very expensive to build and requires a lot of capital, but it makes the land unaffordable for less expensive development.

Our community has added thousands of housing units with hundreds more under construction. Again- we are against incentivizing demolitions of existing diverse high quality historic housing stock.

An activist just referred to people against #CityOfYes as “pro-segregationists”. A white activist, I’ll add. He was followed by a black New Yorker who asked for the proposal to be reworked and referred to the “arrogance” of the plan.
