@frawlzfans People who work with electronics will sometimes wear a wristband that does the same thing so a static charge won't fry a circuit board they are working on.

@frawlzfans The ground wire doesn't carry any electricity. It's only use is to discharge and electric buildup so to speak. I believe that the purpose in the desk is so any static buildup will be dissipated to earth so you won't get shocked.
