We love shorebirds. We've been facilitating research since 1988. We're self-funded and affiliated with @BirdLifeOz. Open for camping, tours and accommodation.
Celebrating this #WorldMangroveDay with the #Roebuck Bay mud flats, much of which is recognised as a Ramsar wetland and which supports extensive stands of glorious mangroves #OzPlants
The view from our kitchen. What better way to spend a few days than #camping at the BBO and watching this great cast of creatures visit the Shadehouse baths?

Don't forget to keep tabs on the @GlobalFlyway Godwits. While most were tagged in New Zealand, there are 2 birds from NW Australia which are currently in Siberia!
Data from this project are easy to browse on their website: https://t.co/y7MPNI0PE2
A reminder you can see wonderful migratory #shorebirds here at the BBO ALL YEAR (because younger ones don't migrate north to breed).
We've had some brilliant views of Asian Dowitcher on recent Shorebird tours.
In 1879 Alexander Forrest saw these great Kimberley ranges and, in awe, named them after Belgian King Leopold.
Today we officially renamed them the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges - the names they have held well before that King was born.
@BroomeShire Mosquitoes really bad out here, a lot worse than in town prob because we are close to flooding areas of Crab Ck saltmarsh. Don't know what our options are, but I thought worth contacting as we have campers out here who it is affecting. We have a decent supply of Rid.
What a superb effort by the team @GlobalFlyway, continuing to collect invaluable long-term data on migratory #shorebirds despite all the challenges you'd expect doing this in 2020, and more!

Last week, 11th memorable 2020 red knot field season by GFN/BFU/BNU at Nanpu, Luannan, Bohai Bay, came to end. Summary report by Katherine Leung here: https://t.co/uvmWvpaS9c
On behalf of GFN & all interested, Chris & Theunis are very grateful to Kath & Hebo for making it happen.
We've loved seeing and been inspired by the posts from #BlackBirdersWeek, and it's fantastic to see positive impacts like this. Great work @BlackAFinSTEM
#BecauseOfBlackBirdersWeek, the National Wildlife Federation is expanding its Conservation Fellowship & Intern Programs to create opportunities dedicated specifically for young biologists of color (students & recent grads) to help more #BlackBirders launch careers in conservation
Tours are back at the BBO and we can't wait to show you some of the amazing environments around Roebuck Bay.
We run half-day shorebird, mangrove and plains tours, and a full-day tour of the Roebuck Plains lakes - which looks a bit like this https://t.co/WuXUkBDvcO
New blog about how we survey local habitats for birds using @BirdlifeOz's super easy Birdata app.
Why not download it yourself and try surveying your area - it makes a massive contribution to our understanding of native birds and how they're doing.

Important information here - #Broome and the #Kimberley are open to tourists and free travel is allowed again from midnight tonight.
Non-essential travel to Indigenous communities will remain prohibited.
Thank you @MarkMcGowanMP
Great to see this from Robin Leppitt @CDUni on his fascinating study of Yellow Chats @KakaduNationalP https://t.co/HEGuRdMbiD
It was a privilege to help Robin with fieldwork in Broome alongside @YawuruAU rangers last November.
The two bar-tailed #godwits from NW #Australia, 5RBLL staging in #Qingdao and 5YRRB staging at #Jiangsu coast, arrived at known tundra areas. Both are within a few km of sites used in previous summers.
If breeding goes well, fewer movements are expected @: https://t.co/h0yuMmdZNa
Excited to announce we'll be able to start up our regular TOURS again from Sat 6 June!
We can't wait to share the wonders of our beaches, mangroves, lakes and plains with you all.

Great webinar yday from Richard Seaton @awconservancy on working with birds of prey, in particular the elusive and imperious Red Goshawk.
AW Mattea gripped the rest of us by finding one at home in central Kimberley last summer - see her blog about it here https://t.co/nENSBqpLkq
Crab Creek Road (our access road) is currently CLOSED for, well, obvious reasons. For updates, visit https://t.co/N9WfTINZuE
See you when things dry out in a few days!
