🇳🇴 Norway, a country who has produced Haaland, Odegaard, Torino Andre Flo, John Arne Riise amongst others. But it has also produced numerous Forgotten Football Clubs.
But none are as probably as high profile than FK Lyn
Here is their story in brief 👇🇳🇴
FK Lyn or FC Lyn Oslo), which went bankrupt in 2010.
The broader club, Ski- og Fotballklubben Lyn (founded March 3, 1896, in Oslo), is one of Norway’s oldest and remains active today through its amateur/grassroots department (Lyn Fotball / Lyn 1896 FK).
They were founding members of the Football Association of Norway.
However, its top-level professional football department collapsed financially, leaving only a phoenix club in its place.
The Ullevaal Stadion, Norway’s national stadium, which Lyn helped initiate in the 1920s and used until 2010, was one their home grounds. They also played at Bislett Stadium.
They were Norwegian top flight champions twice, (1964, 1968) and Norwegian Cup winners eight timesa (1908–1911 consecutively, 1945, 1946, 1967, 1968) meaning they are one of the most successful cup teams in early Norwegian football.
They were also runners-up in the league multiple times and cup finalists several others, so they could have added to their trophy haul had things went differently.
The club were strong in the early 20th century and a major force in the 1960s, including reaching the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup were they lost to Barcelona.
Lyn had a solid presence in the Eliteserien (top division) in the 2000s but suffered from financial mismanagement, sponsorship issues, and legal disputes (including a high-profile transfer saga with Chelsea over Mikel).
In June 2010, while in the second tier, the professional entity declared bankruptcy mid-season — all results were annulled.
Fans rallied around the amateur side, which started from the seventh tier (6. divisjon) and climbed rapidly with multiple promotions.
Today, Lyn 1896 plays in the OBOS-ligaen (second tier) and continues the tradition at Bislett.
