@DismasWaTabu We saw what we saw and we heard what we heard... Stop confusing us... Pride comes before a fall and trust you me, Yours will be harder... Next time think before you speak...
Every five years something magical happens in Kenya.
The politician who has been wearing a suit since campus suddenly remembers he has a traditional outfit.
It fits perfectly. He has been keeping it for this exact moment.
He also remembers your language, your struggles, your grandmother's name. Your village. The river you fetch water from. He has been to that river. In his heart. Always.
He eats your food publicly. With his hands. For the cameras. The same hands that will sign documents you will never see in a building you will never enter.
He calls you his people.
You are not his people.
You are his transport to power.
Once he arrives he finds his real tribe. It is a small tribe. Very exclusive. It lives in Muthaiga and Runda. It does not speak your language. It speaks tender. It speaks contract. It speaks foreign account.
You fought for mtu wetu.
Mtu wetu found his own wetu.
And his wetu does not include you.
Meanwhile your neighbour. The one you have shared a fence with for fifteen years. Who called you when your child was sick. Who you called when the rent was due. That neighbour almost became your enemy because a politician in a borrowed traditional outfit said so.
The politician is in Nairobi.
Your neighbour is still next door.
Choose carefully who you fight for.
And who you fight.
