The Brucella Canis RVN page will be 1 year old in 5 days and so much has been achieved during this time as we have expanded to become Team Brucella Canis due to the wonderful awesome of all of you.
However,
***** We want to celebrate the AWESOMENESS of the veterinary practices who HAVE championed the cause of Brucella canis positive dogs!
***** Who have implemented evidence-based policies and procedures!
***** Who have remained committed or became committed to providing care for dogs that tested positive for Brucella canis!
***** Who stepped in to help when other veterinary practices refused care to a Brucella canis dog in need of urgent veterinary care to save lives and improve welfare!
We all know that there are some AWESOME veterinary practices with wonderful veterinary teams who have ensured that Brucella canis positive dogs and their owners have been able to access high quality veterinary care.
Without them many dogs would have been euthanased or suffered unacceptably. With them, this was minimised or avoided. We salute them all.
Please do NOMINATE a deserving veterinary practice. You can nominate MORE THAN ONE and you DO NOT need to own a Brucella canis positive dog to do so.
Nominations close on May 1st at 12:00. Voting with commence shortly after this point.
These vet practices have cared - let's show them that WE care that they have cared!
The winning practice will win a the overall Brucie Award and a hamper of goodies, but ALL nominations will be recognised and celebrated.
Nomination form: https://t.co/ixmf6p5WeD
Be fulsome in telling us why you nominate a practice - your words could be the difference between winning and being a runner up so don't hold back explaining why this practice deserves to win the Brucie Award 2024!

Your BC+ dog: still the same dog on the day you got the test result that they were the day before they were tested. The risk hasn’t changed, only the perception! #BrucellaCanis
@TropicalMedic Plus most tested humans were living in houses without BC+ dogs, and tested 2 years after the dogs, and the sample size per household (and therefore intra-household prevalence) was based on data two years after dog blood sampling took place. Preliminary work but limited in value.
@TropicalMedic The best we can do with this data is look at prevalence of animal hoarding households with at least one BC case. In which case they have 21 replicates, but the sample size calculation is at the level of the individual dog.

Remember! I will question misleading information, but focus on the issue, not the person. Most people are just trying to do their best with the remit, resources and time they have and the hat they wear. No hate please, just advocacy and positive action😍 Team Brucella Canis.

Got a dog that has tested Brucella Canis positive? BC has been risk assessed as low/very low to humans, but you can contact your local Health Protection Team for individualised risk assessment based on your family health. They may get in contact anyway. https://t.co/jlnBnP7Yf7

Did you know? A dog that only tests positive on the SAT is likely to be at a very early stage infection. if your dog has been in the country for several months+ and your test result is SAT +/ iELISA - ask your vet how plausible it is for this to be a true positive! #BrucellaCanis
