The saddest part isn’t the failing.
It’s the quiet after.
The way the room fills with smoke
when you’ve burned every bridge you built
just to get across.
Struggle pays struggle.
That’s the cycle.
We get a minute off
like a prisoner gets sunlight.
Then back to work.
Back to war.
Maybe the minute
is the only wage we get.
So we live for it.
And call it living.
They said "where there’s a will, there’s a way"
So I carved doors into walls with my fingernails.
Tried every way.
Every door led to another wall.
The worst part isn’t failing.
It’s the silence after.
Sitting in the dust of "I tried everything"
While depression calls it failure
Innocence was a house with no doors
so grief moved in
It carved lessons into us with a dull knife
and called it growing up
we become people who learned
to lock the doors
after the storm
we’re no longer available
for the weather that drowned us
That’s the favor.
I want my pages to learn how hope feels
But what do I call hope?
More strength to carry the burdens?
Or one morning where the burdens feel lighter?
Or the belief that one day I don’t have to ?
