I like this idea, not least because years ago I wrote up a proposal for BCC to put a Clean Kilo on every high street in the city using empty property it owned.
Would we still need weekly bin collections if everyone had a local plastic free grocers? https://t.co/pY3brfZViP
We need to rethink how local WM food reaches people. High Rise Harvest wanted to start a Brum community distribution center to wholesale food to restaurants, resi and community groups like @IncredibleSurp . Without better distribution, local food isn’t truly accessible
Late to this, but had to share! This Birmingham Dispatch article (from Dec 2024) explores Birmingham’s rich history of growing fruit & flowers. Must read!

Distribution of local food is a barrier. When we ran the Slow Birmingham Food Hub, many farmers described Birmingham as a “black hole” for local food. Traffic, time constraints and low sales made it economically unviable to bring fresh produce into the city
Big thank you to @BrumSlowFood@IncredibleSurp and @ChurchfieldsIC organising the Apple Harvest event today, making the best use of the beautiful 🍎🍏 The weather was kind to us and the company was simply outstanding!
🌱 Proud to support @changekitchen, a Birmingham-based social enterprise, as they near the end of their crowdfunding campaign to fight food poverty.

@VanessaJ2Inspmy Fair. If you're interested in experiencing nature within the city, you should definitely check out the farmers market on the second Saturdays of each month. Then, take a leisurely stroll down to the nature reserve. It's conveniently located on the cross city line. : )

Food waste is not rubbish but valuable in the circular economy - as we have learnt from the @food_trails#Birmingham composting pilot. “We cannot neglect the socio-economic impact of these projects either” added Kate Smith @BrumSlowFood. Thanks to @EatMakePlayB16 for this pilot!
