Just watched the whole Pep Guardiola documentary: A Beautiful Obsession.
I have two big takeaways -
1) I thought it was a beautiful artistic choice (if it was) to make a documentary about the most successful manager in the history of the sport centred around the one period of his managerial career that he suffered the most failure.
The man won 20 trophies in 10 years but the amount of anguish and pain losing put on him showed that success is not winning trophies. He said it himself, the day after a trophy it doesn’t matter anymore.
At the end he even says that both success and failure are not real, quoting Ruyard Kipling by saying they’re imposters.
I think it’s a deeply important lesson to take for anyone in life who is feeling dejected because they feel like they can’t achieve the success they want in life - success shouldn’t define you and neither should your failures.
Nothing surer than Hurzeler being the coach that brings us #21
can see it from a mile away—still remember when @jwmufc_ put me onto his St. Pauli side and the levels he’s gone up since…superb
