@potatoslav My nephew was raised as a swedish australian bilingual, in Oz. At age 2 his Mum took him to met his Swedish Mormor. She said he was speechless for a few days as it dawned on him a whole country spoke swedish - & it wasn't just his weird thing his mum did at home in Australia!
@potatoslav Between 2 to 4 he may get the grammar mixed up, until he sorts out which grammatical rules belong to which language. Very normal as children are aquiring a rule based system - grammar acquisition is one of the most amazing achievements of chikdhood.
@potatoslav What you are developing is known in Applied Linguistics as a 'Family Language Policy' e.g. family rules about when Language 1 & Language 2 around your child. If interested, I can give you references for 2 Australia papers which follow families for several years.
@adrianmckinty Revealed genre in TTTSS....(sorry X word count problems)....SM is less an elaborate investigator of Soviet agents & emigres, but greek tragedy, hamartia, sole human attachment destroys K
@adrianmckinty I value Merv Emre's observation that in the trilogy we are 'betrayed by genre'. In TTTSS, apparent genre is mole hunt, reveal genre is intimate betrayal, love & dependence. SP is Victorian domestic novel of fatherhood, tragedy driven by father & child
@adrianmckinty Esterhase is my favourite character, then Connie. I love the question & answers scene in the gallery (SP). Although I identify with Peter's stubbornly guarded innocence, sustained beneath his tough guy veneer.
@dieworkwear In 1971, Twiggy was 21 & in LA promoting her film. MGM asked her what she wanted to do: she asked if she could meet Fred Astaire. He invited her to tea the next day. He was 70 but they became friends. I consider that one of the all time great wishes & I'm glad it was granted.
@emeral4jade_d@potatoslav Australian entering the chat. I understand you just fine. Am I bit scared of you? Yeah. Am I curious about your baby's accent? Hell yeah.

@adrianmckinty Chris Koch book YOLD is a great read, the Bhagavad Gita provides the moral & philosophical framework. Koch's brother was a foreign correspondent & I heard he was nicknamed Mal following the film....
