I have some really smart followers.
When watching your opponent, you don’t want to over analyze them, that’ll create hesitancy when competing.
You want to find 1-3 tendencies or ticks (like @ZacPauga said) that’s it.
I feel like most people know that football at a college and NFL level is 90% film study.
What I don’t think people know is that most of that is watching tape on yourself.
Finding your opponents tendencies and ticks is a a thing and it makes good stories but it’s a tiny part of what you actually do. Mostly it’s watching what you personally are doing wrong so you can fix it.
Combat sports is so far behind in this aspect.
The fastest way to improve isn’t learning another move.
It’s seeing what you’re doing wrong.
Most grapplers repeat the same mistakes for years because they’ve never actually watched themselves.
One film review can fix what 100 hours of training can’t.
You can’t correct what you can’t see.
@BryanHarneyPPS Where the head goes, the weight goes.
When I trained MMA I used snap-downs frequently. It definitely works better to grab the head rather than collar-tie the neck.
@Dose_A_Truth Yup. Grabbing the neck does nothing but prevent you from getting the snap. Stay away from the neck, go straight to the head. Like a hammer hitting a nail.
3 sneaky reversals. That work.
95% of grapplers suck at getting off bottom… and it’s not because they’re weak.
It’s because they’re trying to escape the wrong way.
Here’s the first thing I look for before I ever try to get up:
1. Stop fighting with your hands.
The second you start hand fighting, you’re giving your opponent exactly what they want… your wrists.
Now they control you.
The only time I fight hands is if they already have wrist control. Then I clear the wrist first.
2. Don’t even think about standing up until your legs are free.
If they’ve got a leg ride, hook, or any control over your legs, you’re not escaping.
Clear the legs first.
Then get up.
3. Start using your feet like hands.
This is the game changer.
Your feet can trap their legs, block movement, create space, and break control.
Most grapplers never even think to use them this way.
Bottom isn’t about exploding.
It’s about removing the controls that are keeping you there.
Clear the wrists.
Clear the legs.
Use your feet.
Everything gets easier after that.
4) And lastly, master the tri-pod.
It should be your go-to escape.
Requires the least amount of athleticism or explosiveness.
And it’s the most proven way to be able to consistently get out from bottom
Had a blast with @jackhneel
We got into stuff on this ep I’ve never got into in a pod. His questions and ability to navigate the convo was really impressive.
Check it out and show him some love. I almost got him to come to Idaho but I think he will next time

Guys, I’m not trying to be a dick, but I know more about wrestling/grappling than 99.999% of people commenting on this app.
Starting in the Big Ten alone puts you in roughly the top 0.001% of wrestlers. And that was years ago.
Since then, I haven’t stopped.
I’ve been coaching and training for 36+ straight years with NCAA champions, UFC champions, Big Ten wrestlers, and world-class grapplers.
So when I tell you something about wrestling/grappling, it’s not because I watched a few YouTube videos or listened to a podcast.
It’s because I’ve spent my entire life doing this at the highest level.
Unless your name is Cael Sanderson or Dan Gable, there’s a very good chance I know more about this than you do.
No lol. Not only is backing up, esp in grappling, a fucking horrible idea, it’s against the rules. It’s called stalling. Do you have credentials to be speaking on this so confidently? Tbh if it’s not, “I wrestled and started D1”, “I fought in the UFC and was good” or “I’ve won the ADCC’s multiple times”, I’m not really all that interested in continuing the conversation.
@EricSteckel@BeanoChilds@Gorilla_Blanco@Wisc_dad@JoeKania3 lol don’t mind at all. Fortunately, I don’t seek my self worth from online strangers. I’m enjoying seeing people lose their shit from a tweet. Treating it almost like an experiment.
