DB Jab 3x Drill
- Defensive backs should use jab pads held at shoulder height to simulate the receiver's frame.
- Coaches should initiate the first two full-speed releases using a cadence, followed by a hard stop to reset the drill.
- Proper technique requires using the off-hand to jam the receiver; for example, if the receiver moves left, the defender must jab with the right hand.
- Avoiding the use of the directional hand is critical because using the hand on the same side as the receiver's movement locks the defender's hip and prevents them from turning to run.
- On the third release of the drill, the coach prescribes both the specific release direction and the finish for the defensive back to execute.
- If the receiver takes an outside release, the defender should clear the turn and look for the ball, whereas an inside release requires the defender to burst and stack.
