@shortdiv I don't think you can successfully stop AI until you can reckon with the motivations of it's builders
More than money or even power, the quest for superintelligence is an ideological project that seeks, at the least, sweeping quality of life improvements, and at most, utopia
After attending the People’s AI Assembly last night im concerned that the left has no idea what really motivates the architects of AI, and just how motivated they are.
It’s bigger than a story about corporate power.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

For the last year I've been working on a project that's finally ready to pop its head out
Microchips are the substrate of modern civilization, yet they remain fundamentally inaccessible
Say hello to @vensa_si, a $100M philanthropic fund for advancing open silicon
If you blow your nose after standing around in a NYC subway station, your snot will be black
This is brake dust and other pollutants (PM 2.5) lodging themselves deep in your lungs
It's gross and causes lung cancer!
We shouldn't accept this!

Had a dream where the government hired me to do public awareness comms about an asteroid that was going to destroy earth
My comms strategy was to go around and give big hugs to as many people as possible
