Far too many Texas students still lack access to a high-quality public school that works for them.
That’s why the #txlege created public charter schools in 1995. They are:
🚀 Free to attend
🛰️ Open to all
💫 Focused on helping students reach their potential
Today, nearly 370,000 high school students have access to a high-performing campus thanks to public charter schools.

population mapping software w/ a drive-time overlay show how many students would lose access to a highly-rated public school #txed 🧵

Today I'm at Meadowlands in Boerne, a charter school partnered with a residential treatment facility & focused on CTE. 50 students, 100% low income, 45% SPED. So many charter models out there! #txed
Local taxpayers paid for a school. GCISD is now selling it, BUT w/ a deed restriction that it CANNOT be used as a school OR EVEN FOR CHILDCARE #foranyonebutkids#txed
James didn’t know where his road would lead. 🚦 Facing instability at home, he often skipped class, and he felt lost in the shuffle at his traditional district high school. But he knew he couldn’t stay where he was, so he decided to change lanes. 🏎️

@smarick - neighborhood schools are great
- dont use them to trap kids
- or to hoard opportunity
- supplement them with schools of choice
- they're so important that if one is closing, a new model/operator > vacancy or repurposing the facility away from education
Ms. Davenport called @TPPF Mandy Drogin both the "Pink Princess of Policy" and "Mandy Ringwald" & this is the worst nickname backfire since @GovHotWheels_TX#txed
