Two things can be true:

1. The decision-making by the Pirates and Jared Jones (and the Marlins and Eury Pérez) is easily understood given the incentives and how baseball works in 2026.

2. It’s incredibly deflating as a fan and viewer of the sport.

The Pirates were 1 game out of a Wild Card spot and then played 7 games without Konnor Griffin and then played 15 games without both Konnor Griffin and Oneil Cruz and are now 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

That seems fine to me.
