Let’s talk about it.
The NBA released their first rookie rankings, placing Wemby #1 and Chet #2. Here’s how the two alien-giraffes stack up among rookies TODAY:
Points:
Wemby - 1st
Chet - 2nd
Rebounds:
Wemby - 2nd
Chet - 3rd
Steals:
Wemby - 3rd
Chet - 4th
Blocks:
Wemby - 2nd
Chet - 1st
3PM:
Wemby - 4th
Chet - 3rd
If you look at the actual numbers, they are nearly identical. If you watch the games, they are both making an immediate impact.
But as of today, the most hyped prospect since LeBron James is objectively the 2nd best rookie in the NBA.
Because of one word: Efficiency.
Chet is the first player in NBA history to average at least 15ppg while shooting 50/50/90 through the first 8 games of his career.
He has a higher true shooting percentage than Curry, Booker, Jokic, Porzingis, Tatum, Mitchell, Embiid, LeBron, Giannis and KD.
And he’s top 3 in points per shot attempt…in the entire NBA.
Wemby is on a bad team, which hurts his efficiency. Chet is on a good team, which helps his efficiency.
If Wemby and Chet swapped places, it’s likely Chet would struggle more with the Spurs, and Wemby would be even better on the Thunder. But that’s a hypothetical.
In the real world, Chet is currently the far more polished player. And that’s not a knock on Wemby. That’s just a reality.
Chet is 2 years older. He’s had a season to work on his body and learn from NBA players. And history is on his side.
Rookie Blake Griffin missed the 2009-10 season, then won ROY in 2011. Rookie Ben Simmons missed the 2016-2017, then won ROY in 2018. And a rookie Joel Embiid missed two seasons from 2014-16, and then made All-Rookie First Team in 2017.
Awards are often a popularity contest, but this is complicated.
Wemby is truly as great as we think, but Chet has the advantage. Wemby can surpass him tomorrow, but today…
Chet is HIM…🤷🏽♂️
@estevaosera@_TheRoch_ i mean, y’all been ignoring this context for years and NOW you wanna act like context matters because your guy is the one under the gun?
nobody wants to hear it clown
@estevaosera nobody wanna hear it
jokic just lost to a team missing its best player plus two other starters
AND he blew a 20-point halftime lead AT HOME in Game 7 two years ago
NBA fans and media have been calling Embiid lame and corny for years
but he’s NEVER had a full mental breakdown on stream immediately after blowing a 3-1 series lead, blaming flopping, refs, and everything else
only place he’s gone after the playoffs is the operating room
"Joel Embiid is a great player. ... [But he] flops. He know it."
Jaylen Brown said the officials "had an agenda" against him in Boston's seven-game first-round loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. https://t.co/m3RyjMtSN3
@monkeymann51606@cellydyl@SportsCenter look at you here talking about “yeah, i can’t wait to watch them do it to you… 😈”
because you couldn’t do it yourself, so now you getting your jimmies off of watching someone else do it, that’s just nasty
@ShaiFuckLukaGF@AndrewDBailey hey man, i’m an embiid fan, so i just want you to know that this pathetic bullshit has been going on way longer than just shai
these media guys, andy bailey, matt moore, josh eberley, get absolutely vitriolic about any black player who’s better than jokic
it’s despicable
@AndrewDBailey Andy, you ARE a sports media personality.
Also, the Jokic vs. Embiid debate has been intensely personal for you for so many years, and you’ve never once elaborated on why.
Your clear bias—while trying to parade around like you’re the paragon of rationality—is truly pathetic.
this guy @JoshEberley blocked me because i asked him a couple years ago why the embiid vs. jokic debate was so intensely personal for him and he didn’t have an answer
but the issue for me has always been guys IN THE MEDIA like him trying to BLAME Joel for fluke injuries
@igiveupp2234@racimegacar@statmuse embiid also had the 2020-21 mvp basically locked up until he tore his meniscus and missed a month
jokic’s entire legacy is built on the structural integrity of embiid’s knees 💀
@RichMoneyBling@LakerCj That’s not based on anything though.
He’s had his face broken on three separate occasions, he’s had torn ligaments in his thumb, he had appendicitis. These are not injuries that have anything to do with weight.
This is something you say when you don’t actually know the facts.
