Within most of our lifetimes, whites will be an overall minority of the US population. Anti-white rhetoric that would’ve given the Black Panthers pause has been completely normalized in politics and the mass media. A dozen university majors could be aptly described as Anti-White Studies. Straightforward discrimination against whites in education and employment is not only legally-approved, but has vast federal, state, local, and corporate bureaucracies to carry it out. Like it or not, these conditions make it inevitable that white will continue to coalesce into White, especially since other markers - e.g., ethnicity and religion - lack the necessary hold to serve alternative loci of identity.

If white South Africans wanted to identify simply as South Africans, and to forget any racial identity, that’s too bad because their vote isn’t the only one that counts, and their racial identity has social, legal, economic, and political reality. The same is true in the US, and if there was ever any opportunity to have it be another way, they ship sailed when we set ourselves on course for a white minority. Pretending otherwise is a luxury belief afforded only to the wealthy upper classes; everyone else has already traveled far along the path (even if reluctantly).
