Why One Nation is absolutely NOT far right;

And the distinction matters a lot.

1. Immigration

An actual far-right position would be immigration or citizenship determined by race or ethnicity, or denying equal citizenship to Australians because of their ancestry. One Nation’s stated policy is to cap immigration at 130,000 visas per year, enforce immigration law and reduce population growth because of pressure on housing, wages and infrastructure. That’s certainly a restrictive immigration policy but arguing that immigration should match a country’s capacity to house and service additional people is not, by itself, “far-right”.

2. Energy and net zero

An actual far-right position concerns authoritarian or ethnonationalist government. Rejecting a particular climate or energy policy doesn’t suddenly put someone into that category. One Nation openly wants to scrap net zero, pursue cheaper and reliable energy and allow technologies including nuclear power. You can agree or disagree with that enormously. But opposition to net zero is an argument about energy, economics and climate policy and not a definition of far-right politics.

3. Government spending

An actual far-right economic system can involve powerful, highly interventionist and authoritarian government. One Nation instead argues for smaller government, lower government waste and debt and reform of expensive government programs. That includes criticism of rapidly growing NDIS expenditure, opposition to the Voice and opposition to spending associated with net-zero policies.

Again, people are completely entitled to disagree with those priorities. But fiscal restraint isn’t “far-right” either. So call Pauline conservative. Call her nationalist. Call her populist. Call her policies too restrictive if that’s your view but if lower immigration, cheaper reliable energy and restrained government spending automatically constitute “far-right politics”, we’ve stretched the expression so far that it tells Australians nothing.

Media Release: One Nation calls for immediate stop on migration from ‘do not travel’ countries

One Nation is calling on the Federal Labor Government to immediately stop migration from destinations the Australian Government's own Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade rates as ‘do not travel’ because of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, violent crime, civil unrest, state repression or institutional collapse.

Senator Pauline Hanson said: “We can no longer ignore the real security risks presented to Australians from regions hostile to our interests and way of life.

“Australia’s terrorism threat level remains ‘probable’, meaning ASIO assesses there is a greater than 50 per cent chance of an onshore attack or planned attack within the next 12 months.

“If the government warns Australians not to go to a country because of extreme security and terrorism risks, the government should not continue accepting ordinary migration from that country on a business-as-usual basis.”

Destinations currently rated as “do not travel” include Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

“I’m not interested in importing the world’s problems at the expense of Australia’s security,” Senator Hanson said. “Australians have no faith that Labor is doing full security checks on new arrivals given the welcome mat has already been rolled out for returning ISIS brides and foreign terrorist fighters.

“The government cannot issue its highest security warning for an entire country about terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, armed conflict and collapsed authority, then pretend those same conditions are irrelevant to migration.

“Where the entire country is marked ‘do not travel’, the government should pause ordinary new migration. Where large parts are marked ‘do not travel’, every application should face far more rigorous security scrutiny.

“The Government should either urgently act on the warnings issued by its own experts or explain why those warnings apparently matter for Australian travellers but not for migration security.

“These changes should apply to every new offshore visa from the listed ‘do not travel’ countries, including refugee and humanitarian visas. There should be no refugee loophole. Any future refugee or humanitarian visa from a ‘do not travel’ country should be considered only if the Government and relevant security agencies can give Australians an absolute assurance that the person’s identity has been established and that they present no security risk to Australians.

“The security of Australians must be the number one consideration of government. Stopping migration from ‘do not travel’ countries and applying greater security checks to countries with warnings will help keep Australians safe.”

I won't stay silent while productive farmland is sold off and converted into carbon credit schemes. Rushy Lagoon is Tasmania's largest farm and one of the country's significant beef, dairy, sheep and cropping properties. Australian bidders wanted to keep it producing food, yet the Albanese Government approved its sale to foreign owners backed by millions of dollars in taxpayer support.

Australians are already facing rising grocery prices and growing pressure on our food supply. Every acre of productive farmland matters. Instead of supporting Australian farmers and strengthening our food security, this government is helping drive a net zero agenda that puts carbon credits ahead of food production.

That's why I demanded answers in the Senate. Why is taxpayer money being used to support foreign investors buying Australian farmland? Why are productive agricultural properties being diverted into carbon credit projects? I'll keep fighting to protect our farmers, our farmland and Australia's food security.
