i no longer hold space for anything that shrinks the room for me to be myself, i no longer allow my authenticity to be held hostage by people who are triggered by my truth, i no longer silence the parts of me that deserve a voice; i release it all to see myself more clearly.
Nobody tells you how hard it is to rewire your brain so you can allow amazing things to happen to you after so much trauma or hurt. Blessings exist, good people exist, a softer life exists. Let it happen.
My therapist told me this, and it changed my life: “You're not healing to be able to handle trauma, pain, anxiety, depression. You're used to those. You're healing to be able to handle joy and to accept happiness back into your life.”
Maturing is realising no amount of chemistry will outweigh the slow erosion of your sanity when you’re dating someone who hasn’t fully chosen you. It’s reminding yourself “I don’t care how great it feels now. I care how safe it feels later.”
Respectfully, I do not go above and beyond for people like i use to anymore. I meet you as far as you meet me. I speak to you as much as you speak to me. I include you as much as you include me. I spent a long time overextending myself and feeling like I’m forcing bonds with people. I need reassurance and reciprocation 🤌🏽
