Mallam Nasir El-Rufai: The Face of Resistance — The Difference Between Cowardice and Heroism
by Mohammed Bello Doka
6 October, 2026.
In a nation where hope has become a scarce commodity, where the strong are silenced, the courageous are caged, and the fearful are forced into submission, one man stands tall like an iroko tree in a storm. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is not just a name. He is the face of resistance. He is the face of courage. He is the face of hope. When every strong man is threatened, when every voice of reason is silenced, when every Nigerian is scared to speak truth to power, El-Rufai remains the flicker of light that tells us we can conquer fear, greed and selfishness.
Let us not pretend about the times we are in. Nigeria has become a place where loyalty is punished, where sacrifice is forgotten, and where betrayal is rewarded with juicy appointments. But in the midst of this darkness, El-Rufai has refused to bow. He has refused to trade his conscience for a bowl of porridge. He has refused to become another recycled politician singing the praises of those who threw him under the bus. Instead, he has chosen the lonely road of resistance, and in doing so, he has become the hope of millions who had given up on this country.
Think about what this man has done. El-Rufai is a builder of people. He is not one of those leaders who surround themselves with sycophants and gatekeepers. He built men. He mentored them, funded them, protected them, and pushed them into positions of power. Ask those who today occupy big offices. Ask those who today walk the corridors of power. Ask those who today enjoy the fruits of the political empire he helped to build. Many of them were nobody until El-Rufai gave them a ladder. Many of them were forgotten until he remembered them. Many of them were strangers until he made them insiders.
And when it mattered most, El-Rufai stood for principle. He stood for power shift to the South when many Northern politicians were scheming to retain power in the North. He did not do it because it was popular. He did it because it was right. He stood up for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu when the men around President Muhammadu Buhari were doing everything possible to scuttle the Southern agenda. He fought them in the trenches. He mobilised Northern governors. He went to Chatham House and spoke for Tinubu when others were hiding. He put his reputation on the line. He put his relationships on the line. He put his political future on the line. He did it because he believed in the cause, not because he was looking for a reward.
But what did he get in return? Betrayal. Plain and simple betrayal. The same people he helped to power turned their backs on him. The same people who benefitted from his courage began to treat him like an outsider. The same people who rode on his political machinery began to see him as a threat. They forgot that without El-Rufai, many of them would not be where they are today. They forgot that without his strategic mind, without his courage, without his network, the story of 2023 might have been different. They used him and dumped him. They milked him and discarded him. They praised him in secret and mocked him in public. That is the reward of a man who chooses principle over convenience.
Yet El-Rufai remains dogged. Do you know how many times he has been offered deals? Do you know how many times he has been invited to negotiate with his oppressors in exchange for freedom, riches and influence? Do you know how many times they have dangled the carrot of a soft landing before him? Do you know how many times they have told him to just keep quiet, to just sign a document, to just abandon his principles, and all will be well? He said no. He said no to the money. He said no to the influence. He said no to the freedom that comes with selling your soul. He chose the prison of principle over the palace of compromise. He chose the pain of resistance over the comfort of betrayal. He chose to be

HE Atiku and his Vice, former governor Rotimi Amaechi, visited a fueling station today in a direct effort to see, experience, and reassure the masses of their plan to make Nigeria affordable again.
After Rotimi Amaechi said he would personally visit a filling station to buy fuel and verify the price, the moment has now attracted attention. He and Atiku are taking the fuel-price debate directly to the streets and to the filling station.
This is about one simple question: what are Nigerians paying for fuel today, and what does it mean for the cost of transportation, food and everyday life?
