NYSCSS 2023 Outstanding HS SS Teacher of the Year, AP GOPO, AP Res, BHS SS Lead Teacher, 2020 LICSS HS SS Teacher of the Year, NYSUT Subj Area Comm for SS
I'm so excited to be heading to Nashville next weekend for a few reasons: to present on PBL in Social Studies, to share our Kiva Challenge Project, and to accept the 2023-24 Secondary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award on behalf of NCSS!
@MrOttochian I'll be there with some amazing colleagues to present our PBL project centered on systemic racism in housing as reported by the 2017 book The Color of Law! We are so excited to be discussing teaching "hard history" and learning from all the educators who attend!
@supt4kids@MalverneUFSD I am a very impressed outside observer to this project! Please tell these amazing kids that social studies teachers everywhere are proud of the students, teachers, and admin of Malverne!

All set for the New York State Council for the Social Studies this March! Presenting with my amazing colleagues @wendy_arely and Jackie O’Hagan @HumanitiesSCCSD on engaging students with PBL. #NYSCSS22
Bellport High School’s AP US Government and Politics class read The Color of Law and completed a PBL learning experience on systematic racism in housing. Today, author Richard Rothstein joined us for live for a virtual Q and A! #thecoloroflaw#PBL#apgov#humanitiessccsd
“Inspiration is tied to your purpose. Mine is writing and salvation for me.” -Mateo Askaripour you make South Country so incredibly proud!! @BudrisAndrew@loxango@SCCentralSD
SS Teachers, as we are discussing the illegitimacy of mob violence, take a moment to celebrate Stacy Abrams of Georgia. After she lost an election, she triumphed by organizing legitimate political action, not riots. A real role model for democracy. https://t.co/FMhrT3iVMt
@micahcohen This makes no sense. Clare is part of the 538 brand. Clare provides insight that no one else brought to the show, and kept the rest of the team grounded. I’m addition, she’s hilarious, which comes in handy on a podcast run by statisticians.
BHS AP GOPO students study federalism through PBL investigation of Federal and County Homeless services. Groups of students research, interview Suffolk County DSS reps and SCCSD Homeless Liaison, to prepare to create simulated journalism projects. #APGOPO#PBL @HumanitiesSCCSD
Students at BHS follow-up their study of the French Revolution with an investigation of #EndSarsProtests in Nigeria today. Thanks to co-designer Nefe Abamwa, kids wrote questions that were emailed to Nigeria with video files sent back in reply. #enduringissues @HumanitiesSCCSD
Watch “Support the South Country Education Foundation” on #Vimeo https://t.co/bps2AgokBL Our Kiva Challenge wouldn’t have happened without SCEF support! Do some good for the great kids of a great district—donate! #southcountry#PBL#kiva
