That sounds deeper than it actually is.

Sometimes, the purpose is simply to make the world you're building feel alive or to make characters feel distinct. Not every single character trait NEEDS to move the plot forward, although some certainly can.

If you think otherwise, give me an example where that's how it works and I'll gladly change my mind.

@snakeofthesun @ThatComicFan3 That's not true at all. Not every aspect of a character needs to serve a specific purpose or move the plot forward. Characters can have traits that simply add depth to who they are without necessarily affecting the overall story.
