This stuff drives me nuts. No one believes that gender transitions alter someone's chromosomes. But that's not the relevant issue. The medical case for transgender legitimacy is based on the fact that biological sex itself is not always as simple as two perfectly distinct sexes.
One can be born with female chromosomes but also male hormones, male gene expression, male neurological organization, and male phenotypic expressions (or vice versa). And these real biological contradictions will often produce a feeling of gender dysphoria from a very young age, in all cultures and civilizations.
Are chromosomes all that matter even when they fail to determine the rest of one’s sex and gender development? Is someone who has male chromosomes but develops female gene expressions, hormones, and brain organization male or female?
We can say "there are 2 sexes," based on gametes, but biological development does not always cleanly follow the gametes.
Since these are widely-accepted and observable biological characteristics (really, read the research, I've posted dozens of medical studies before), perhaps we need to broaden the definition of "intersex" to incorporate such individuals with more contradictory biology.
So, no, transgender people are not changing their chromosomes. But biological sex does not always develop clean and binary with respect to the brain, hormones, chromosomes, etc, and ultimately gender transitions are often prioritizing the brain over the chromosomes that failed to guide the other processes.
@hankgreen https://t.co/q45ULRaluP was my childhood neighbor (& my brother has his contact info). great guy who has done online chats my my SIL's 5th grade students!
And here is how my town continues exclusionary zoning: "It is the intention of this Zoning Bylaw that this article shall be construed against the perpetuation, extension, increase or change of nonconforming uses and structures."
We don't have sewer & don't really fit this design, but many of us grew up in capes & ranches set on 1/3-1/2 acre lots with 25-30' setbacks. It's what made our neighborhoods great. Today, you can't build those neighborhoods.
i think overinvestment in the semiotics of the platner tattoo obscured the more salient set of facts exemplified by the tattoo, not that he was a nazi (he isn't), but that he had a history of recklessness, poor decisionmaking, and difficulty admitting errors
Every one of these deficit-reducing policies in @MarthaGimbel's new piece in the Atlantic would make a great start on fixing the budget. Terrific list.
Evil Republicans are not coming after your Social Security (please retire this lazy, stale scare tactic).
*Math* is coming after your Social Security - its scheduled for a 22% cut in 6 years when the trust fund hits zero. So where is your plan to bring solvency, Senator?
YES. WOW!! Thank you, @PeteButtigieg advocating for ADDING SEATS to the Supreme Court because term limits don't go far enough. THIS is what will get my vote in 2028. No good law passed will survive this rogue Supreme Court.
@thatsKAIZEN ❤️ these posts. I feel that we are more likely to see manipulation than fraud. Even on a local level, I’ve been taught to ensure the “yes” voters get to the polls, engage with the “maybes” & chill/ignore the “nos” (🙏 that they don’t care enough to vote)
For 30 years I've tried to correct this nonsense. The vast majority will not listen. There has to be a villain - some evil politicians who stole all their money. Some easy solution (raise the cap!) they aren't telling us. Its conspiracy theories all the way down because "were getting screwed" political victimology is easier than accepting that we've promised ourselves more benefits than the economy can deliver at the tax rates we expect.
@berkie1 Our affluent, suburban town (all septic) often argues that more housing = more property tax going to education. Hopefully Chapter 70 (school funding) reforms like fixing inflation adjustments will help.
@Jason@joerogan@TomCruise 🙋♀️I vote in favor of SSRIs (in conjunction with therapy) as a step towards behavioral changes like exercise, diet, sleep,... because making those adjustments in the midst of a depressive episode is basically impossible.
Some cool videos about these on Youtube.
