"DC, when I came here, I came from another organization, I was down on baseball and thinking about retiring. You made me love baseball again."
-- Howie Kendrick
Kendrick came to DC from Philadelphia.
The Eagles are still trying to find a position for Cooper DeJean going into year 3.
This is why I had a 4th round pre-draft grade on him: https://t.co/yF0Da9Mjlf
@DPYoungblood No, the small Market fans are because their owners are too cheap and won't spend the free money they already get in Revenue sharing. So why don't the other owners do something about those cheap owners? Why should the players agree to less money because owners are being cheap?
This one tweet encapsulates both ends of the problem:
No one can compete financially with the likes of the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets
Owners don't bother to try and/or are too cheap.
They're both fixed by a cap and floor.
Look at the last annual Forbes report on the Miami Marlins: $320M in revenue, $99M in player expenses, and $53M in operating income, and a $400M increase in team value. Marlins ownership doesn't think the system is broken... they love it!

If MLB truly cared about competitive balance, it would force revenue-sharing teams to spend those dollars on talent instead of pocketing the money. The 50/50 split only comes inside of a cap/floor system, which replaces a true open market with an owner-controlled ceiling.
Bruce Meyer, interim head of MLBPA, says MLB's salary-cap proposal would result in less money overall going to players:
"Player share, under their proposal, would go down. ... Had MLBโs proposal been in place in 2026, players would, we estimate, lose over half a billion dollars"
@Tio_Albert2145@dodgers52@JeffSpiegel Oh they absolutely do, and it's part of the problem as well--the Nationals owners are cheap and it drives me crazy. That's why a cap and floor are both very necessary for the health of the league.
@BuildTheStatue Except it isnโt ๐ Why are we inventing scenarios that donโt exist? The ratio of spending top to bottom is basically the same as it was 25 years ago, andโฆyou guessed itโฆ.way more than a handful of teams have won.
