@LancetLab_ZA COVID 19 Antigen testing is LESS sensitive than PCR ( 56,2%) but highly specific. If using during the first 5 days in symptomatic patients then this is the ideal timing.
@LancetLab_ZA Rapid Antigen test is also known as a LFA Lateral Flow Assay. If the target protein is present in a sample, the antibodies will bind and produce a positive result. Line density will vary with concentration of the target
@LancetLab_ZA Some people may shed virus for a long time, and it may be intermittent. Frequent testing may lead to alternating positive and negative results. 51% of patients had a positive PCR after a Negative! It's the natural process and reflects the flaws in testing asymptomatic patients
